Like Justin, Laura is a recent convert to the world of photography. She didn’t grow up with a camera to her eye like her husband, C.J., but she has learned a lot from him: “He has been patient with me as I work to catch up with his amazing photography skills, and I have to admit I am slightly obsessed with learning all that Lightroom and Photoshop have to offer.”
Laura has taught preschool since 2004, and she has gained valuable experience “coaxing” children into cooperating for things they might not want to do at first—like nap time or photo shoots. “My preschoolers have also taught me how to be truly creative. This might just be the Drama major coming out in me, but my kids have these great imaginations that I love to experience and even participate in.”
The first thing one notices about Laura’s photographs is how effortlessly they capture personality. “It is so heart-warming to hear a mother say, ‘Wow. That’s my boys!’ Children are only a certain age for a short time, and if I can capture those moments before they slip away, I feel like I’m almost giving people the gift of time travel.”
Whether Laura is shooting kids, weddings, or portraits, her photographs are sure to be enjoyed for years to come.
