I didn’t always want to be a wedding photographer. When I was a kid, I went to them almost begrudgingly. Weddings were something to get through, hoping to get a good piece of cake at the end.

A couple of years ago, C.J. had a friend insist he shoot his wedding. Knowing I had shot for a few years, C.J. convinced me that I should help him out. Throughout that wedding day, we had numerous people asking how long we had done wedding photography. Apparently we gave off a vibe that we knew what we were doing.

From there, we kept getting referrals from people, and requests for how much we charge. So, we started Mosaic Photo.

We’ve learned a lot since then. And I actually really like taking pictures at weddings. It’s great be a part of a day that mean so much to so many people. I love the quick pace, meeting people, and creating beautiful photographs that a bride and groom enjoy for their lives together.

Mosaic Photo had the true privilege of shooting Erin and Mike’s wedding. A while back, C.J. and I had shot their engagement photos. Their wedding was a great reflection of their personalities. A small, intimate ceremony with family. Then, we got to spend a lot of time with just the bride and groom taking portraits of them. After that, their reception was a fun party, with games and our photo booth.

It really feels like we made great friends with this amazing couple. Congrats, Mike and Erin.

Here are some of my favorite photos from the day. We tried to balance their personality and taste, balancing a retro look with some bright and vivid, modern shots.

Here are the rest of their wedding photos.

Here are some of my favorite photos of some of the brides and grooms we had this year with the people they are closest to. Looking through these photos, there is a wide variety of styles.

C.J. and I took senior pictures for a laid back guy

Mike was very relaxed and chilled. We had a great time with him and getting to know him. A huge compliment to us is when we know the subject doesn’t like getting his picture taken, but ends up having a good time. Or at least, a better time than he thought it’d be.

Take a look at the rest of his senior photos.

And now for something we hope you really like…

This project started as a way to bring some fun to reception photos of the guests. We never did like going around to the different tables while everyone was eating, forcing them to pose for us, and get a subpar photo. So, an interesting and entertaining solution was to set up a photo booth.

It’s not really a booth, per se. It’s really an area we corner, set up a background and lights, and have props set out for people to use. People come if they wish. Some choose to have a nice photo taken of them and their family, all dressed up for the special occasion.  Many go ahead and try on the various wigs, hats, and props that we bring. Kids (of all ages…2 through 72) really got into it. Whether participating or watching, the photo booth by Mosaic Photo brings a lot of excitement to a reception and provides some great memories.

Another big plus, is that if we do formal portraits after the ceremony and before the reception, we have a dedicated person start the photo booth. This gives the guests something to do as we shoot pictures of the families and bridal party.

My good friend Andi let us try this out on her at her wedding in early August. Here are some fun shots, or check out the entire set.

First, we’re back! We’re in full swing of editing now. A lot of blog posts are imminent but not too much time for writing.  So for your viewing pleasure, take a look at this rotating gallery that we update every so often of some of our favorite wedding photos we’ve done.

A collection of wedding details

Weddings have a lot of details. Pieces that come together and make up the day. Here are a few of the details from Jordan and Emily’s wedding.

This was a fun wedding. More to come from it. In the mean time, you could check out all of their wedding photos if you’d like.

Laura and I took some portraits of Phoenix. What an awesome kid, we had a great time. Her mom is a fan of sepia, so we were a little bit heavier on the toning than normal.

Wedding Album Design for Josh and Terra
We designed this wedding album for Josh and Terra’s wedding. I’m really excited with how it came out. It’s a hardback album with flush mounted pages.

Thanks to the folks at Zenfolio for continuing to enhance their products and services with this new slideshow feature and much more.

Here’s a Mosaic Photo promotional…well um, mosaic that we designed.  In it, there are quite a wide range of photos. Families, seniors, weddings. It is a collection of highlights for us in the last few months from the defining moments in their lives. A collection of diverse elements forming a coherent whole.
