Storytelling of a ceremony

While the day unfolds, everything comes together for the ceremony. So much preparation happens to get all of the details just right so the ceremony goes off without a hitch (sorry for the necessary, but evil pun). We work hard to capture the story of the ceremony. Catching little moments like when the groom sees his bride for the first time, the dad giving away his daughter, sweet prayers, and other significant but subtle instances are what make a great shot during the ceremony. It’s a crucial part of wedding photography.

In updating our wedding portfolio (follow link, then hit “Wedding”), we just added this montage of some of these moments. While these events all “just happened” since we obviously don’t direct or pose anyone, these images are tough to make. A lot goes into getting the right angles to be in position when something happens. Then, capturing it is often tricky.  The nature of ceremony photojournalism is dynamic.  Transient moments are there and gone. So composition, shooting angles, and the moment all have to come together at once.
